PRE-TEEN BOY’S BEDROOMS

How To Decorate A Pre-Teen Boy`s Bedroom

By Jessica Ackerman

Decorating a youngster’s area is complete excitement! Do not limit your decorating plans to the ordinary or traditional; a little bit of creativity can go a long way towards realizing the feel that you crave. If you’re stumped on how to go about decorating a room for a pre-teen boy, here are some creative suggestions that he’ll love both now and later.

Creative Color Palettes: It’s not Just about Blue Anymore!

While a fashionable selection for the boy’s room, the color blue can be very dull as a color selection when used without the benefit of additional colors. The color blue is the best color for complementing primary colors. Mixing blue with other bright colors while accenting with white keeps the look dynamic without becoming chaotic. Next add a pattern to the color mix for even more excitement and vibrancy. Mixing a pattern is easier than you think; the key is to choose patterns in the same scale and same intensity. The color white works as a balance and backdrop for brighter colors. You can mix big bright polka dots with big buffalo plaids or plaid if they are similar in size and color saturation; link the patterns with at least one common color. It’s also fun to repeat a pattern throughout the space that is introduced by the theme: For example, with a NASCAR theme black and white checks are part of the logo and they can be repeated in a room border, bedding and picture frames.

When choosing themes don’t feel that you are limited to characters and cartoons: Any item can be the inspiration for a color palette and theme: A collection of toy soldiers, model trains, favorite sports and games, or a poster from a favorite zoo or planetarium.

Choose simple wooden furnishings for the boy’s room that will grow as he grows. Even though his preferences will change over the years, the basic furnishings needed for a young man’s room will stay the same – a bed, dresser, mirror and night stand. In a few years he may need a larger desk, bookshelves and adult size work chair, but those items may be beyond his size and needs at this point. For the time being, used items might be the right choice. One can choose to make any piece harmonize with the color scheme with a small amount of coordinating paint and fabric.

Smart Ideas for Storage

Sons tend to amass a never ending supply of stuff as the days go on and it will be simpler on you when you make it convenient for your child to get in control of his belongings. One method that can permit you to get the most use from your current closet space is to add an additional closet rod that you can use for hiding clothes that your son no longer wears. If room allows, a bank of vertical shelves installed on one end of the closet makes it easy to store shoes, folded jeans and sweatshirts. Wall hooks can be the perfect addition to a busy young man’s bedroom and are just what is required for storing everyday necessities like book bags and sports equipment. Enhance organizational power by installing labeled boxes or bins.

Decorating an imaginative bright area for a boy is not that big of a challenge. Just keep your focus on flexible options that can grow as he does.
